Gyeongju is the historic capital of the Shilla Dynasty, which reigned for nearly 1000 years.  Needless to say, there’s a lot of history in this city.  This evening we went to Anapji pond, which was built by one of the kings as his private garden and animal menagerie.  It was forgotten for hundreds of years, most of the buildings decayed, and the rest fell into the pond.  During excavation, they found tens of thousands of artifacts, and have restored three of the 24 original buildings.  Amul and I walked around the grounds at sunset.  It’s beautiful, lit up at night.

A 1:15 model of one of the palace bridges.  Apparently they’re using this model to replicate/renovate parts of the palace.
